My Story
I am a Licensed Clinical Profession Counselor (LCPC) and a Licensed Athletic Trainer (LATC). I graduated from Liberty University in 2016 with a Master of Science in Christian Counseling. I also have a Master of Science in Exercise Science and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with a concentration in Athletic Training. I worked as a LATC for 30 years, helping high school, college, and professional athletes with their physical healing and conditioning. In 2016, I transitioned to mental health counseling in order to continue helping children, adolescents, families, and adults grow and heal, only now focused on their mental health.
In my counseling, I work with clients to find support and develop necessary tools for overcoming obstacles in life. I utilize an eclectic style of counseling tailored to each individual client so they can best reach their specific goals. I will listen and apply mental health models specific for each client’s needs. As a Christian Counselor, my life is oriented around my faith in Christ; this shapes my counseling in that I accept of every client, regardless of their faith. For those clients who find it helpful though, I am trained to incorporate prayer and biblical guidance in sessions to help clients..
I am trained in EMDR, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral therapy, trauma informed therapy, Sensory Motor Level one techniques, Trauma Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Collaborative Problem Solving and Family Systems Therapy, Solutions Focused Therapy, and Equine Assisted Therapy.
My Approach
We are utilizing our farm – as a setting where clients can engage with our animals and nature, or just observe. The farm, whether walking its trails, watching the horses, or engaging with animals have proven to be a blessing that we want to share with others to help them find healing.
I love animals of all types. In addition to our many household pets, I have been riding horses for over 18 years, and my husband and I are continually collecting farm animals. I have been amazed at how animals can transform conversations and increase insight as we observe and interact with them. I am able to incorporate the use of our animals as part of the therapeutic healing process.
In addition to the life lessons one can learn from interacting with animals. Animals are also a means of comfort and love that increases the positive natural chemicals of oxytocin, endorphins, dopamine, and serotonin levels – all vital elements to healing and health.
My Faith
I became a Christian in 1999. Since then, I have developed a deep love for God’s word and spend time daily in prayer and studying the Bible. Spending this daily quiet time has become a special part of my life as I depend on God’s leadership.
I view my counselor role as that of an encourager. I have found the truths of the Bible teach us many healthy coping skills as we learn to focus on the present. I believe every person is unique and God has a specific purpose for their life. My desire is for everyone to heal from their past hurts and get unstuck; and for those willing to engage their faith, that they grow in their faith as well.
My relationship with Jesus Christ is the most important and meaningful relationship in my life. Jesus is my hope. I get excited when I receive a greater understanding of his nature and character as my Lord and Savior. I have found His passion and love for me to be unconditional and I look to share this same unconditional love and acceptance with every client. I have experienced tremendous healing and growth as I have learned to be still and focus on His will and presence. Likewise, I desire to help others grow in their relationships walk in the freedom that God has designed us to experience.
